Owen Hurlbert is the 2021 recipient of the Adam Litteken #6 Scholarship. He is the son of Mike and Chrissy Hurlbert of St. Peters, Missouri. Congratulations to Owen who has a cumulative GPA of 3.5. He is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and has received a Francis Howell Central Spartan Star.
Owen has played hockey for St. Peters Spirit, Bantam A1, 16U AA, and 18U AA. He has also played for Francis Howell Central Ice Hockey club since 8th grade and was chosen as the Assistant Captain while playing for the varsity team. Owen has worked part time as a Gym Attendant at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He has also volunteered for the Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service and assisted with coaching youth hockey for both team and individual sessions. Owen plans to attend Mizzou in the fall to major in Information Technology and possibly Athletic Training.
Owen’s scholarship application essay stated, “Hockey is not just a game to me; it is an escape from the monotonies of everyday life, where I can forget about school, work, and any other worries. . . where I can enjoy doing something that I love. . . where I can appreciate my friends on the ice and my family in the stands cheering me on.” Kyle Blumenberg, St. Peters Spirit hockey coach said, “Owen is just a great man that is quiet but leads by example. He is an exceptionally good student and just a great role model.”
The Litteken family was not present at this year’s FHC hockey banquet due to COVID-19 but were able to write, an introduction speech that was read to recognize the winner. Owen will be given a $1,000 scholarship award, a commemorative plaque, the 2021 recipient jacket, and he signed the traditional banner. We are very proud of Owen!
